Counterfeiting in the Supply Chain: Identification, Containment and Prevention

Counterfeiting of products is on the rise. In this study we found that companies don’t know (and often don’t care) about the origin of their products and components, until a failure or customer warranty issue brings it to the forefront. The rise of counterfeiting can be attributed to the rise of B2B and B2C e-commerce sales that are exploding, making it easy for criminals to exploit consumers through online counterfeit sales. This CAPS Research study conducted in the last year spanned interviews with multiple executives and subject matter experts, government executives, law enforcement, and surveys of CAPS executives. We develop a model that provides a compendium of best practices for organizations to consider in protecting their brand. While counterfeiting cannot be eliminated entirely, we have documented approaches that can help in at least slowing down the volume of activity occurring in your supply chain.

What Should It Cost? A Practical Approach to Cleansheet Cost Analysis

How much should you pay for a product, component, or service? The supplier’s quote tells us the price, which we hope is tied closely to the total cost of developing that item, manufacturing it, and delivering it to us. But does it? The short answer is that it depends. In order to identify the true cost and therefore the cost-reduction opportunities in a product or a service, it is important to understand the drivers of its manufacturing or delivery costs. Cleansheet methodology addresses this by providing a structured approach to assess the input costs and examining every aspect of the production and delivery process. When executed well, Cleansheet methodology uncovers the true savings potential to reach a fact-based “fair and reasonable” price target and identifies which procurement negotiation terms, specification adjustments or design changes will produce the most impact. This session will provide a detailed overview of the Cleansheet methodology applied to products and services using case studies from various industries. Emphasis will be on practical, immediate approaches that you can deploy quickly to identify new savings opportunities and boost analytical capabilities of your organization.
